Dean - Prof. Dr. Nadi Bakırcı
We began education at Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine in 2009 and graduated our first students in 2015. Since then, we have been graduating approximately 80 students every year. Although we are a young faculty, we are pleased to see that our nearly one thousand graduates are working successfully as physicians and scientists in a wide variety of fields across the country and around the world.
We aim to educate young people from Turkey and abroad who choose us to study medicine as universal physicians who are socially and globally responsible; capable of advocating for health; committed to scientific knowledge and able to use it for the benefit of society; curious, research-oriented, and motivated for lifelong learning; able to use technology appropriately; humane physicians who prioritize the needs of their patients and society; strong communicators; and individuals who have internalized ethical values and human rights.
In line with these goals, we focus on society’s priority health problems and needs and strive to develop our social accountability in all dimensions. In this context, the societal impact created by our graduates and academic activities is very important to us, and strengthening this impact is a fundamental priority of our medical faculty.
Our education program has completed accreditation processes as a result of external evaluations and has received internationally recognized TEPDAD accreditation. In addition, we have earned the right to use the Turkish Qualifications Framework (TQF) logo on graduation certificates, indicating that the program meets the standards related to program competencies. To ensure the sustainability of this quality, we continuously evaluate and improve our program.
Following the first three years in which basic and clinical sciences are integrated, our program consists of three phases: two years of clinical clerkships and one year of internship. Within the program, we have created a corridor called the Clinical and Professional Skills Program (CMPS), which includes research, the social aspects of medicine, communication and basic clinical practices, as well as medical ethics and professionalism skills. In addition, our students have the opportunity to take a wide variety of elective courses and projects (EMED) in social and technical fields of medicine in which they are interested and can further develop themselves. Through elective fields and social responsibility activities implemented with program updates, we aim to strengthen social responsibility and societal impact, which are among the strategic priorities of our faculty.
During clinical clerkships, students encounter patients directly in the hospital environment and develop their clinical knowledge and skills. At the end of the clerkships, informed assessment approaches ensure that students are well prepared for the internship period.
During the internship year, students participate in medical practice under the supervision of clinical educators in hospitals and primary care settings, gaining the opportunity to apply in an integrated manner the knowledge and skills they have acquired up to that point.
Throughout their education, students participate in programs at the Clinical Simulation and Education Center (CASE), where they develop their clinical practice skills.
The university’s rich research infrastructure and opportunities to work with highly qualified scientists enable students to advance in the field of science. Each year, numerous studies produced by our students are published in prestigious journals. Our newly established MD-PhD Program offers an important opportunity for students who are curious about science and wish to pursue a research-oriented career.
Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine continues its existence as an institution that invests in science; encourages students to conduct research and produce knowledge; ensures students’ active participation in program renewal, development, and decision-making processes; values community-based education alongside clinical clerkships; and aims to train universal physicians ready to advance in all fields of medicine both domestically and internationally.
Wherever our graduates may be, and whichever field they choose within the broad spectrum of medical practice, we expect them to possess the shared fundamental knowledge, skills, and attitudes of good medical practice and good scientific inquiry—that is, to be both a good physician and a good scientist.
