An event titled “Foot Health and Care Education for Individuals with Visual Impairments” was organized by our University’s Department of Nursing to raise awareness about foot health among visually impaired individuals and to support their independent self-care skills. The event was held at our university on December 2, 2025.

Conducted within the scope of the Social Responsibility course, the event was organized by the “Strong Steps Team,” composed of fourth-year Nursing students, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahire Ulus from the Department of Nursing and Lecturer Birce Buturak Küçük from the Podology Program of the Vocational School of Health Services. The event was carried out in collaboration with the Podology Association (PODİDER) and the Six Dots Association for the Blind.

Approximately 40 visually impaired individuals who attended the event were welcomed by Nursing students and guided to the event area. At the beginning of the program, participants were informed about the importance of foot health, basic principles for its protection, and healthcare centers they could مراجعه. The importance of using audio guidance in daily foot care was also emphasized.

Following the informational session, participants were accompanied by students to the Podology Laboratory. Under the supervision of podology faculty members, podology students performed foot care practices for the participants. During these sessions, self-foot examination methods were explained through tactile instruction, and practical preventive approaches applicable in daily life were demonstrated.

One of the highlights of the event was the audio foot care guide (podcast) prepared by the Strong Steps Team of Nursing students. This guide was installed on participants’ mobile devices, and its use was demonstrated in practice. In this way, it was aimed to support the self-care abilities of visually impaired individuals.

Throughout the education and care process, participants’ questions were answered and their feedback was received. This meaningful social responsibility event, aimed at increasing knowledge and awareness of foot health among visually impaired individuals, concluded with participants being safely accompanied upon departure by the students.
